In September 2007, the unrivalled Dublab collective launched the Echo Expansion tour. To commemorate this experience, an extremely limited edition 12" featuring new songs from eight of the artists on the tour was released. Including exclusive tracks by Flying Lotus, Dntel and Blank Blue among others, this vinyl only EP on the Belgian Aim label sold out in a flash, so after returning home, all parties decided to continue expanding. Now ripened on the vine, eight new tunes have been added from artists who embarked on the Echo Expansion tour or who supported it from the home front, doubling the original content to a towering 16 tracks from the likes of Life Force Trio, Adventure Time, Blank Blue, the Gaslamp Killer & Gonja Sufi, Flying Lotus, Ras G, Daedelus, Dimlite, Dntel, Languis, Jahbitat & Daniel Guitierrez, Kutmah, Hashim B, Take, Matthew David, and Andrew Pekler.

I brought this compilation album on a recommendation from Mary Anne Hobbs, the first time through I was a surprised (and a little disappointed) that it wasn't dubstep/base heavy through and through. However, the second time through I was thoroughly glad it wasn't that through and through as I have plenty of similar stuff already. It's eclectic electronic music, on the mellow side, but definitely not a chill out album, its engaging and brilliant. Definitely one to put near the CD/record player for easy access on a regular basis.
