Description
The Echo-Com Wireless Communications System is a great addition to any helmet, giving motorcycle enthusiasts an easy way to converse with passengers, receive phone calls, and listen to audio--all with one user-friendly device. Echo-Com seamlessly pairs with most Bluetooth-enabled audio players.Easy Setup After initially charging the unit overnight, the Echo-Com headset is ready to go. Simply position the two speakers in the appropriate spots in your helmet liner. The cable and charging cord can be neatly tucked away behind the liner. When wearing the helmet, position the microphone directly in front of your mouth and you're all set.Using the IntercomConverse safely and clearly on the road with the hands-free intercom. When paired with a second unit, the Echo-Com allows the user to communicate with a passenger at the touch of a button. When intercom conversation has ended, you will automatically be returned to the previous audio input.Talking on the PhoneIn addition to rider-passenger communication, the Echo-Com system is also designed to easily interface with the rider's cell phone for hands-free operation. Echo-Com will automatically answer incoming phone calls after several rings. A manual pick-up feature is also available for those who choose to answer more quickly. Once the call has ended, you will automatically be returned to the previous audio input.Listening to AudioTuning in to your favorite music, following GPS guidance, or listening to any other audio is a snap with the Echo-Com. Simply follow syncing instructions on your Bluetooth-enabled device and you're ready. Intercom usage and incoming phone calls will temporarily interrupt audio listening, but as soon as communication has ended Echo-Com will automatically return to previous audio input. For unlimited talk and audio usage, the Echo-Com device can be continuously charged while riding by pairing it with the Echo Plug & Go--a convenient handlebar-mounted mobile device holder and charger (sold separately). A one-meter long charging cord is included with the Echo-Com.Care and SafetyTo keep your Echo-Com in good working order, do not leave the device in a cold environment for an extended period of time. Excessive moisture may also harm the system, os it is recommended to use a helmet shield in inclement weather. When not in use, store the Echo-Com in a dry location.

Bought two of these and my initial review after installing them in a full face and a 3/4 helmet and testing out for about 30 minutes is that these work very well. The full face is a Torc helmet that had small open spaces for the speakers. Installing them wasn't hard but it was tedious as there isn't a lot of room to work with inside the helmet. Removed the cheek pads, fished one speaker up and underneath the headliner and then did my best to fit the microphone boom under the cheek pad to re-snap. These speakers while not huge are bigger than the holes in my Torc helmet but after tweaking them I was able to hear just fine. Note the closer the speaker is to your ear the better you'll hear. I didn't use the velcro pads for the speakers since they have no place to go in there AND I may want to move it to another helmet at some point and that helmet will require the use of the velcro. I was worried about access to the microphone controls but am finding it not too difficult at all. Just have to push the boom against the inside of the helmet for leverage and then pull/push it back toward my mouth as needed. It does take some thought to angle my hand into the helmet but I just use my thumb to press the buttons and it works fine.As far as talk quality, I was able to communicate with my buddy just fine while riding at speeds up to about 70. I would occasionally here his rumbling when he would get on the throttle but it was just a faint background noise. We used the communicator function for our test ride and while we did have some static it was when we were farther apart but we heard each other just fine. We were never more than a hundred yards apart but we will test their range next time. For a phone call, I called him and even though he had the 3/4 helmet I didn't hear anything but his voice until he gunned his bike. And I only recognized the rumble because I knew he was on the bike. But the call was super clear! He said he also made an outbound call using it and oddly he said the person he called wasn't as loud as when I called him. Not sure what to think of that but I'll be sure to try it.The install into the 3/4 helmet seemed pretty straightforward. At this point I recommend this very highly. I hope they last! I'll update in a few weeks with some real world results.======= UPDATE 7/6/15 =======Just put these through a 1500 mile ride and am very surprised at how well they worked. Helmet to helmet communicating was great even at highway speeds (up to about 60 yards) as was taking and making a phone call. The ability to communicate with someone traveling with you can be a life saver and worth the cost just for the safety. No more guessing when to pass or whether your buddy will be taking this exit or the next one. Plus we could warn the other when it appeared a vehicle was changing lanes near us.Now the weird part. While in communicator mode I heard my buddy's music being picked up by his mic which made listening to my own music through my bike speakers impossible. So I just turned mine off and luckily liked his playlist. I need to call the company and ask them how to avoid this...really shouldn't be happening in my opinion but there might not be a workaround. Of course I could just disconnect but then we lose the instant communication. And somehow one of two small screws that hold the microphone housing together came out which made the power button work intermittently. Didn't know at the time what the problem was but Amazon exchanged it very quickly. I ended up rigging it with Gorilla tape to hold the end together and it works just fine and Amazon let me keep it and just pay the same price for the new one which happened to be way less than the current price. Very glad I got them!
